Dragon birthday

Sorry if you were hoping for a From Courtney's Closet card this week - I had some other stamping commitments to get done in the little time I had, so it wasn't happening. But I do hope to be back at it next week! Courtney has a bunch of outfits I'd still like to use as inspiration, and she's quickly outgrowing them! (Yes I am still stuffing my almost four month old chunky girl into some 3M clothes!)

Today was my BIL's birthday - Happy Birthday Brad! Here's the card I made for him - he likes dragons so I had to order this Elzybell UK image just to make his birthday card! This stamp is huge - the card ended up 6x6"! Well, even bigger, actually, if you count the sentiment hanging over the edge - since I didn't have a 6" square envelope anyway, I figured why not make it hang over? So Brad got his card "wrapped" in a brown paper lunchbag. He's a guy - I'm sure he didn't care about that detail (or lack of attention to that detail, I should say!). This image was a lot of fun to color with my Copics!! I love the UK images - I wish the North America ones were as large. I won't be ordering any more from the UK though - I ordered this and another stamp a while back, and it cost a small fortune. But I love the stamps soooo much, maybe it was worth it? Since this was a card for Brad, I felt compelled to use a ton of brads - LOL. Brad (the person, not the embellishment) commented that this was a very HEAVY birthday card. :-)

I have to tell you about the day Carter had - because it was a good one! First of all he got to play with his sweet friend Rachel, which is always a good thing. Then we went to dinner at this BBQ place that is on a river (The County Line - for those of you in Austin who are curious) - and there were about a gazillion turtles in the water!! Uncle Brad was super cool and bought some turtle food for Carter to throw to them (which I guess is why there are a gazillion - they encourage you to feed them!) so that was lots of fun. Then Carter got to have some ice cream after his dinner, which isn't something he gets very often. Then on the drive home, he started up his usual chant that I hear every time we're in the car these days - "wanna see firetrucks wanna see firetrucks wanna see firetrucks..." - his main obsession is Thomas of course, but his "real life" obsession - I'm calling it that since we don't see trains on a daily basis - is firetrucks. He loooooves them! There is a fire station right around the corner from our house, so every time we're in the car he wants to drive by and see if they are "awake". When the fire station door is open and you can see the firetruck, they are "awake" - but if the door is closed, the firetruck is "sleeping". Anyway - on the drive home I did a drive-by of a different station up the road from our house, and there was a fireman standing in the parking lot. He invited us to come inside the station to show Carter around!! He was so nice - Carter got to sit up in the truck, and put on the headphones they use to talk to each other when the siren is blaring, and he turned the lights on to show Carter, and let him push the button that opens & closes the door. He also gave him a bunch of stickers. It was so cool. But would you believe I didn't have my camera with me??? ACK! Well he told us to come back any time, so I think we will do it another time when Daddy is home, and bring the camera! It was already way past Carter's bedtime at this point, but I'm so glad we stopped - Carter loved it, and I'm sure he's happily dreaming about firetrucks in his bed as I type this! So fyi - as if firefighters aren't awesome enough for the job they do for all of us - they also take the time to give a little two year old a total thrill that he won't soon forget. Firemen rock!!! :-)

Hockey

So I'm sitting here watching the Stanley Cup Finals - thinking about the Penguins and their immensely talented captain Sidney Crosby - Sid the Kid - number 87 - when it finally occurred to me, I think he wears number 87 because he was BORN in 1987?!?!?
O. M. G.
I have literally never felt so old in my life.

Monica it makes me miss Stevie Yzerman even more!!! This is for you... *smile*

I'm hoping to get some stamping time tomorrow morning - hope to have another card for you soon.

Another scrappy card

This is a card I "threw together" with some things that were sitting on my desk, leftovers from creating other cards. I had just finished my card for Nancy's latest workshop, and was still in a "scrappy" mood. The chipboard flower was lying out because I had traced around it to make the paper flower on that same previous card - I just colored it red with a Copic marker. The patterned paper was also something I had been trying to make work on another card, but it wasn't happening, so it was also lying out. I'm not sure what the green scallop border was leftover from, maybe this card? So I just threw it all together - and I think it worked out into something rather cute!! That sentiment is the same one from Hambo Stamps that I used on the last card I posted. And speaking of Nancy's card workshop, I checked her blog last night and learned that I am the random winner of a RAK for playing along! I'll be getting a little something sent all the way from The Netherlands - what fun!

OK now that I've told you about the card - I also have to mention what a fun day I've had today! I went to a movie! Yeah!! I love watching movies, but I can't really remember what I saw last in the theater. Tuesdays are "baby days" at a theater here in town - so I could just bring Courtney along with me! Carter is at school on Tuesday mornings - I have to pick him up at 2pm, and often the first movie doesn't start early enough to fit it in so I haven't brought Courtney before. But today's started at 11am - so I had enough time. And what did I see, you are wondering? INDIANA JONES!!! Let me just say - I loved it!! I was nervous - I loved Raiders & The Last Crusade sooo much, I didn't want this movie to be a complete stinker and have Harrison Ford just seem ridiculous trying to play it again. Well he didn't at all, he was the same old Indy that I know and love. It was a lot of fun. And Courtney was a sweet little angel baby during the movie - even took a nap in my arms despite the loud action scenes. Yeah!! Hopefully next Tuesday I can drag her along with me to Sex and the City! :-)

Thanks for stopping by today.

WSC#49 - Hambo style!

Here's a little card I made for Beate's Weekend Sketch Challenge (WSC49) - and I do mean little, the card is only 4" square. I had stamped this cute little Hambo kitty a while back and it was just sitting on my desk, already mounted on a circle. When I saw Beate's sketch I knew it would finally make a good home for this sweet little cat! The sentiment is from Hambo Stamps as well - they actually do have "normal" sentiments too, they aren't all tickle-your-funny-bone hilarious. :-) I think I'm going to send this to a friend of mine who moved away from Austin many years ago, and I miss - I think she likes kitties. Well I know she liked my cat, anyway. I miss my Kitty too! But that's a story for another post... Thanks for stopping by today!
  • Stamps: Cat and Wish You Were Here from Hambo Stamps
  • Paper: My Mind's Eye DP (turquoise), Real Red, Whisper White, Celery Prints DP
  • Ink: Adirondack Pitch Black

Sprinkle Bradshaw?

I hope you all are enjoying your holiday weekend (in the US anyway!). I made sure to spend a little time in my stamp room today because I'm not sure how much I'll get to do over the next couple weeks. Joel leaves tomorrow for a business trip to Germany (yes I am jealous!!) and thankfully my mom is getting in tonight for a visit from Michigan, to help me with the kids and the house selling and all of that while Joel's gone (not to mention she's here to just spend lots of time with her grandbabies who she wishes lived closer to her!). And, my stamp room is also the guest bedroom, so, alas, it will be occupied! *sigh* But hopefully mom will share the room during naptime...!

Tonight I played two challenges with one card. The sketch is another good one from Taylor (TECC17). It's a pretty basic sketch I can see myself coming back to over and over. The other challenge I played tonight is TCP Tuesday, hosted by Carole this week (TCPTUES08). The challenge this time around was to make a card inspired by a sitcom. I knew as soon as Carole posted this last Tuesday that I wanted to do Sex and the City - it was only much later that I realized she said SITCOM, and it's not really a sitcom. *sigh again* Ah well, the idea was already stuck in my head and I couldn't think of anything else to do, so Sex and the City it is, even if I'm stretching the rules of the challenge a bit! You may remember the last time I played a TCP Tuesday, I mentioned that I didn't have any TCP stamps to use... well I've obviously corrected that dire situation! :-) These stamps are from the Havin' a Pow Wow set. I figured Carrie Bradshaw wore the funkiest outfits on the show, why not a little hiawatha couture? And what about the hats she'd sometimes have on? Figured it wasn't too far-fetched to put her in a little feather headband. Now the moccasins - not so sure she'd like those, they don't have a high enough heel! I masked the stamp to ditch the papoose - she definitely wouldn't be carrying around a baby on her back, unless maybe it was Brady during an attempt at babysitting (although who knows where she's headed in the movie, which I cannot wait to see, BTW!) (as if I go see movies in theaters these days - HA!). I had to add a ton of glitter and bling to this card to make it Carrie Bradshaw-worthy. Oh, and I thought the sentiment was appropriate! LOL! I drew in the little city skyline to incorporate The City into the card. So there you have it - Sprinkle Bradshaw. Who would have thought? Thanks for stopping by today. :-)
  • Stamps: Havin' a Pow Wow from The Cat's Pajamas
  • Paper: Basic Black, Regal Rose, Cool Caribbean, Whisper White, Rose Red Prints DP
  • Ink: Adirondack Pitch Black
  • Accessories: Copic & SU markers, silver glitter, Spica glitter pen, old bling from my stash, Swiss Dots Cuttlebug folder, slit slot punch, mat stack for paper piercing
By the way - we don't get HBO so I've only watched this show in syndication, which I like to refer to as Sex and the City without all the Sex, as it's highly edited. Watching the unedited movie may be a bit of a shock! LOL! But I am a big-time junkie (heh heh, BIG time...), my Tivo is always full of SATC repeats, I've watched the entire series from start to finish MANY times now. But I think the series ended so completely perfectly, I loved how they tied up every one of their stories - I'm a little nervous the movie will mess it up! But I really can't wait to see it!

Happy Day!

Wow, what a fun Saturday I'm having so far!! Courtney is napping, Daddy is entertaining Carter, so of course I took the opportunity to try and get caught up on my unread blog posts in Reader - and look what I just found on Susanna's super fun blog "Card of the Week" - my little badge holder album!!! She named me her "Scrapbook Album of the Week"!! I am so honored! *blush*

How cool is this?

Well it's official, Carole is my favorite stamper in the whole world!! She actually played my latest From Courtney's Closet inspiration challenge. She is the first (and perhaps only?) person to play along. I think I love her. :-) Check out her ADORABLE card here. Thanks Carole!!

A Hambo Challenge!

I am posting this soooo late! Monica is going to send me to detention for being tardy!! Well... some of the other Hambo design team gals CLAIMED that they are procrastinators, and I had to show them that NOBODY can take MY title as Queen Procrastinator!! Got it, girls?? ;-) Anyway... a while back Monica, the #1 Ham herself, sent us design team gals a couple little badge holders and issued a challenge to see what we could come up with. Funny enough, I knew EXACTLY what I was going to do with mine as soon as I saw it - so you'd think I would have had this done ages ago, right? They don't call me the Queen for nothing, baby! ;-) I knew these badge holders would be a perfect little excuse to make a mini brag book about my sweet baby girl. So I immediately ordered a bunch of Hambo's cute baby images (I especially love their little Teddy Bear Border - I even added a little tan Fun Flock to their tummies!!). I also thought it would be funny to use one of their cool signature stamps that you'd typically put on the back of your card - they have a ton of funny ones, but this "Created by Me. Please hold your applause." just cracks me up for a baby brag book! I am bragging, after all! And I did create her. Sure, Joel helped a little (for about 2 minutes maybe?) (did I really just say that?) but I did the brunt of the work. The pink, white & kraft color scheme matches Courtney's birth announcements. What's that you say? You've never seen me post the birth announcement on my blog? Hmm - maybe that's because they are sitting half-done in my stamp room. FYI she's getting close to four months old. HA! And you really thought you were a bigger procrastinator than me!!?? Keep dreaming. Ok well I better wrap this up so I can finally check it off my to do list. Hopefully the utter cuteness of it will make up for the extreme tardiness and Monica won't scold me too badly. Oh, and don't forget to check out what Monica, Colleen, Isabelle and Holly did with theirs as well! Thanks for stopping by today!
  • Stamps: Teddy Bear Border, Bottle, Blocks, Hold Applause from Hambo Stamps, Karen Foster snap stamps

From Courtney's Closet - an inspiration challenge

I'm posting this a day earlier than planned because tomorrow I will have a special Hambo project to show you (hopefully, anyway - currently it's still just an idea floating around in my head...!). You all seemed to enjoy my idea to create a card based on one of Courtney's outfits each week - thanks for all of the sweet comments!! Of course, nobody actually played along *sigh*, but I suppose that's ok... ;-) My friend Amy said she wanted to see this outfit featured next on From Courtney's Closet - so this is for you, Amy! :-) I knew right away that I wanted to use Papertrey's Butterfly Kisses set for this card - mostly because it's my only butterfly set not packed away at the moment!! I thought I'd use the butterfly image stamp that already has flowers all over it, but then decided I wanted the flowers to be different colors and felt too lazy to have to color them individually on the stamp. So instead I used a little flower stamp that came with the set and made my own "designer paper" with it, and then stamped just the outline butterfly over my homemade DP and cut it out. I also used that DP at the bottom of the card. It was fun - I've never stamped my own background paper before, I've always wanted to try a "one sheet wonder" or something but have never gotten around to it. Now I may just have to! Thanks for indulging me in another shameless excuse to post a photo of my sweetie! Let me know if this outfit inspires you at all, I'd love to see what you create! If you upload to SCS, we're now using keyword FCCC02. Woohoo! Happy stampin'!

Another Nancy card!

I made this card to play along with the workshop Nancy posted on her blog, Scrap This! I didn't really change up anything - I followed her workshop diligently - just had to pick my own papers, stickers, etc. I love how it turned out. I love Nancy-style cards!! I can't wait for her to post another workshop! Thanks for stopping by!

Happy Cupcake Day!

This is what I created this weekend to play along with Taylor's latest Cupcake Challenge (TECC16) - I think it turned out really cute! It's one of those cards that I look at and smile - it just makes me happy. :-) This week Taylor had a sketch for us, and it included ripping the background paper. I used to be a big paper-ripper back in the day, but I haven't done it in ages. Thanks for the fun blast from the past, Taylor! Her sketch was a square card, but because I wanted to use this particular cupcake image I opted to keep mine rectangular. These little piggies are from the same Close To My Heart set that I used for my elephant card the other day - I just love this set!! I added Stickles (of course!) to the cupcakes and again to the piggies' toes. The sentiment is added by hand. Hope you all are having a great weekend! We spent yesterday at Sea World San Antonio, and the weather was just perfect for it. But it's supposed to be up to 96F by tomorrow, so it's almost time for us to hide in air conditioning for the summer...! Carter seemed to really enjoy Sea World, though - when I was putting him to bed last night, I said the usual "night night, I love you, have a good sleep" and he said "sleep then wake up and go Sea World again!!". Too cute. Thanks for stopping by today!

The Return of Flower Friday!

Way back when I used to be a consistent blogger, I started a little feature called Flower Friday. I love flowers. I find it very difficult to resist buying every flower stamp I see. But I have so darn many flower stamps, I've tried really hard in recent months not to buy anymore. I've actually been doing fairly well with that! But here's a beauty I bought last fall, before imposing this new restriction on myself. It's called Hydrangea and it's from smARTworks. I decided to use the "wet watercolor" technique (or whatever you want to call it, this technique seems to have many different names) except when I did the final stamp after the wet image dried, I didn't love how it looked so I spritzed my paper again. So, this is a very wet, blurry image of a hydrangea - but I really like it! I was trying really hard to channel a little bit of Leslie, to try to create a pretty, elegant flower card. I even grabbed some toilet paper from the bathroom to do the background (which you can't see in the photo anyway). I like how it turned out, but I am still a long way from Lesliedom. :-) (she is my hero when it comes to breathtakingly gorgeous cards!) I was inspired by Jenn's card today to use ribbon as part of the background. (Jenn is my hero when it comes to gorgeous, bright and cheerful cards, I LOVE today's card!!!) And that gorgeous satin ribbon is from a recent ribbon share that Jody hosted - so pretty! I was inspired to pull out my hydrangea stamp today because I have some exciting news from the garden - I planted a hydrangea last year just for kicks, because I *love* hydrangeas - but considering how much I've neglected my garden in recent years I didn't really expect it to bloom. Well, it's starting!! Yippee!! Only thing is, I love the blue hydrangeas, and it looks like I'm getting a yellow/pink one. I think I remember the color having something to do with the soil, but I don't remember if you need acidic or basic soil to get blue hydrangeas (Leslie? Help?). Or maybe I just dreamt that and it's really just based on the variety I planted. Yes, I am clearly a Master Gardener. Not! Ok I better go - trying to post this while cooking dinner, and dinner is starting to require more attention. Enjoy your weekend!
  • Stamps: Hydrangea from smARTworks, Thoughtful Phrases from Verve Visual
  • Paper: Always Artichoke, Night of Navy, Le Jardin DP, watercolor paper
  • Ink: Black StazOn
  • Accessories: SU markers, water spray bottle, spiral punch, antique brass hodgepodge hardware, lovely ribbon, edge distresser

From Courtney's Closet - an inspiration challenge?

Every time I get Courtney dressed, I think to myself "this outfit would make such a cute card!". I've been telling myself this for, what, about three and a half months now (?!), that I really need to translate some of these outfits into card ideas! Well I'm finally doing it!! Here's my first installment in what I hope will become a weekly feature on my blog - "From Courtney's Closet"! Maybe sometimes when I'm in less of a girlie mood I'll do a "From Carter's Closet" instead, although his toddler clothes aren't nearly as cute as his baby clothes used to be...! If anyone else wants to draw from this inspiration and play along, wonderful!! I'd be truly honored! But no worries if nobody does - it's just my latest trick for getting inspired in the stamp room (I've told you I can't seem to stamp without playing challenges for inspiration!) and if nothing else, my own little self-indulgent excuse to sneak in a weekly photo of my little cupcake. :-) If you do decide to play along, please link it up here and let me know, I'd LOVE to check it out. And if you even go so far as to upload to SCS, let's call this one FCCC01 (From Courtney's Closet Challenge #1). For this week's card I decided to go with the subject matter (I *heart* elephants!), the colors (I used Pretty in Pink, Purely Pomegranate, Whisper White & Kraft - it really is more of a Creamy Caramel in her outfit but I love Kraft!!) and also the stripes! I saw somebody else do a ribbon thing similar to this recently - sorry, I can't remember who so if it was you please let me know! - and I really liked it, so I borrowed that idea. Of course I had to add some sparkle to the card, so my elephants' ears have Frosted Lace Stickles, along with their toes. The balloon is covered with Diamond Glaze. This stamp set is from Close To My Heart, I think it's soooo adorable! Well thanks for stopping by - if you like this feature, FYI I'm going to shoot for posting it every Wednesday night or Thursday morning. I was excited so I'm a little early this week. ;-)
  • Stamps: Nursery Bash from Close To My Heart, Stampin' Up sentiment
  • Paper: Kraft, Whisper White
  • Ink: Purely Pomegranate, Adirondack Slate

Another day, another challenge card...

This time it's Julee's Mojo Monday sketch challenge (Mojo37) that I turned to. Unfortunately it's also the second day in a row that I'm not thrilled with the final card, but I thought I'd post it anyway. But it's another one I'd like to redo if I find some time!! Today I dug out my *adorable* little birdies from smARTworks that Dina designed - love them! I glittered them up using the SU fine cosmo glitter and my Tsukineko essential glue pad. Do any of you use this glue pad? I'm not sure I like it. The glitter doesn't adhere very well with it, IMHO. Remember my glittery Elvises? Well that card has left a trail of glitter all over my stamp room, it has not stayed put very well. Am I supposed to heat it or set it or something? Hmm. I'm not happy. But I used it again today anyway, what the heck. I *love* that purple polka dot ribbon though!! I got it in an AWESOME ribbon share that Jody the Ribbon Queen hosted. I literally gasped when I opened the box she sent, all of the ribbon was so gorgeous! Ok I better pay some attention to Carter while his sister is napping - as you may have guessed from yesterday's post, he's currently plopped in front of a Thomas video...! Thanks for stopping by today!
  • Stamps: smARTworks, Verve Visual
  • Paper: Going Gray, Cool Caribbean, Whisper White, K&Co DP
  • Ink: Black StazOn (mmm smells so yummy!!)
  • Accessories: SU fine cosmo glitter, Tsukineko esssential glue pad, SU library clips, embroidery floss, May Arts ribbon (I think?)

Red and green and brown and blue, they're the Really Useful crew...

Does anyone else know that song? My days are filled with trains these days - watching Thomas videos (and getting their annoyingly catchy little songs forever stuck in my head!), playing with the engines, reading off the names of all the engines again and again from the pieces of paper that come with the engines, showing all the various Thomas toys they make & sell. My child is completely obsessed. So although this stamp isn't really a Thomas stamp, I still had to have it. It's a train with a face, close enough. :-) It's yet another cute Hambo stamp! I paired him with Beate's lastest sketch challenge (WSC47) and Kristina's latest color challenge (Color Inspiration #8). I'm not honestly sure I can make a card anymore without inspiration from challenges!! But I'm not entirely happy with how I colored this cute little train, so I may have to play with them again later this week (hopefully!). The thing I do like about this card, though, is my "polka dots" I created with brads. I wanted to use some DP on this card but I couldn't come up with any to fit the color challenge, so I "made" some. Yes I blew through a lot of brads on this, but I'm really trying to be less of a hoarder so this was a good exercise in Just Use Them Already!!! And I also like the liquid applique for the "steam". Thanks for stopping by - be sure to come back on Thursday if not before, I plan to attempt to introduce a new weekly feature then... :-) (and I'll post something in between now and then if the munchkins allow me some more stamping time this week!!)
  • Stamps: Train from Hambo Stamps (set of 3 stamps), Karen Foster snap stamps

  • Ink: Adirondack Pitch Black
  • Accessories: Copic markers, Black glaze & silver glitter pens, Hodgepodge Hardware, grosgrain ribbon, SU brads, liquid applique, SU mat pack for brad placement

Happy Mother's Day!

Guess how I got to spend my Mother's Day? That's right - in the stamp room!!! I haven't been able to stamp for far too long again - too many issues* in my household during the past couple of weeks. As I'm sure you guessed from the lack of updates to my blog (I was even emailed by somebody telling me she was sick of looking at the mice... geesh!). ;-) Anyway, it was fun to get my creative juices flowing once again. Maybe I'll hurry and post this and try to head back in for another card - could I be that lucky??

For this card, I played with a Hambo stamp that I think looks just like me (LOL) and one of my absolute favorite Hambo sentiments - one that made me giggle right out loud the first time I was browsing through their site. It's one of what they call their "fractured funnies" - which are cool because they give you something to put on the INSIDE of the card, too. You can see what is says on the outside... the inside of this one says "No, the other one. No, the OTHER one. No, now you're thinking of the neighbor's kid..." hee hee!! I have two siblings (and some horrifically perfect neighbor kids**) so this one is very fitting for my family. :-) The card sketch is this week's Mojo Monday challenge (MOJO36) but looking at it again just now I realized I put a bow instead of a "round thing" so Julee will probably disqualify me from the contest, darn it! I can never follow sketch challenges correctly... ah well. I started off doing this past week's SCS color challenge (CC165 - Lovely Lilac, Certainly Celery, Pretty in Pink) and had it on a Lovely Lilac card base instead of Kraft, but didn't like it, so I blew that challenge too. Although, I did color the flowers purple. Does that count? Oh, and I felt like sewing after reading Sharon's Stamp Simply Challenge (ssnotime34) so I pulled out my Sew Mini. I decided to attempt a "straight" stitch instead of the zigzag I've used before - I use that term "straight" loosely because mine certainly did not come out straight! But that's ok, it makes it look more "homemade"... :-) Hope all of you mothers out there are enjoying your day - and the rest of ya too! Thanks for stopping by today!
  • Stamps: Flower Pot Girl and Favorite Child from Hambo Stamps
  • Paper: Kraft, Whisper White, Prints DP
  • Ink: Adirondack Pitch Black
  • Accessories: Copic markers, Janome Sew Mini, Pretty in Pink brads, Kraft taffeta ribbon, Certainly Celery marker
* I'll leave it at that - y'all are tired of hearing me whine! :-) And yesterday I met somebody who makes me realize how relatively easy things actually are - she has a 12yr old, 5yr old twins, and is pregnant with ANOTHER set of twins!!! YIKES! Could you even imagine? I just said "WOW" and she said "Yup, that's pretty much all you can say about that, isn't it?"

** Laura you know I love the Prices!!

(I'm totally copying Melanie with the asterisks today - I hope she doesn't mind!)
