Will she do it? Will she SEW?!?

Ok so one day back in November (November 15th to be exact!) I got it in my head that I needed one of these Janome Sew Mini machines. I had heard Cambria (who's blog I *adore*) RAVE about hers, and then kept seeing references to them on other blogs. Stuff like that gets stuck in my head, under my skin, whatever... and I can't stop thinking about it and I just WANT IT SO BAD!! (I am currently in that mode with Copics...) So, trying to be the "more practical" person that I am now compared to the former me (funny what a year+ as a SAHM with no engineering salary will do for your budget planning skills...!) I tried to be good - I looked it up online and saw that it was, at the time, $59.99 at Hancock Fabrics. I had heard people talk excitedly about finding it for $40 online. So that was my goal, to get it down to $40. I decided to pop in the actual Hancock store that day and see how it compared to the online price, and to see if they had a mailer I could get on the list for to start getting coupons. WELL! I walked in there and found it for only $24.99!!! How could I possibly resist that?? I've spent more than that on many Stampin' Up sets! It seemed like a very justifiable price for a cool tool I would certainly use ALL THE TIME! Right? Well. What I'm failing to mention is that I have a fear of sewing machines. So I bought it (and btw, the saleswoman at Hancock STRONGLY advised me not to - she said they are "junk" - she wanted me to buy some other $80 machine. I had to explain to her that this is strictly for sewing on PAPER and that I was willing to risk it because I trust Cambria. :-)). And I brought it home. And I placed it under my desk. And there it has sat, in its box. Until today. Today I took it out of the box and put it on my desk. Where it is sitting right now. And instead of figuring out how it works and USING IT, I am blogging about it instead. Baby steps. But will I have a card to show you later, with super cool stitching on it? We shall see. But I did realize, Hancock's return policy is 60 days with a receipt. I am running out of days just to make sure the thing WORKS! So I do need to at least do that... And now I hear Carter waking up so I have wasted naptime blogging about my scary sewing machine rather than using it. Bye bye.

  4. What a great post! I share the same fear of sewing machines, but I LOVE my Janome Mini! So easy to use, and I can now thread the machine and bobbin without even looking at the book! Woohoo! Go test it out, the zigzag stitch makes it look like you're a master seamstress even if you've been unable to sew a straight line your entire life! LOL! ;)
