A silly little card...

So when I sat down to make this card, I had thought it would be a Father's Day card for my hubby. He's a big Red Wings fan, and as you've heard me mention once or twice, they won the Cup last week. ;-) The octopus is a thing in Detroit - crazy people throw real octopi on the ice - there's tradition involved, back in the early days the Wings would have to win eight games to win the Cup, an octopus has eight legs... you get the picture. So I had to use this little octopus to make a celebratory card! But, I can't really give this as a Father's Day card because I went and made it way too girlie!! It seems I cannot make many cards these days without scallops and/or polka dots!!! It's a sickness, I tell ya! So this is a silly little octopus card, I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it. Maybe I'll send it to my college roommate/fellow Wings fan. (Can you believe I randomly got assigned to a dorm roommate with a Stevie Yzerman jersey just like mine?? It was fate! But not really a good thing when your roommate twists your arm to watch the games instead of studying for your calculus exam...) :-) For this card I used Jen's latest Sketch For You To Try. And did you see Rose Ann's method for cutting the ends of the little sentiment "flags" with a square punch?? Pure genius!! I use those all the time but usually just eyeball it with scissors, and as a result they are nearly always uneven. And finally I had lots of fun coloring that little purple octopus with my Copics!! Ok as Allison would say, the wild jackals need my attention so I better go... thanks for stopping by!

  2. I think it is fabulous, and maybe it seems more girly in person, but I don't think it is overly girly! I do think Kelly would love it though. And by the way, I have never once thought about the spelling of octopi. It is such a strange word!

  3. Love it Libby! I laughed when I saw it and my kids ran over to see what made me laugh. DD said "Why is an octopus funny?" I guess she's never seen a hockey player try to pick one up with his stick. I would think your DH would love it too, girlie or not.

  7. This is awesome...perfect colors (love the matching brads). I dunno what is so magical about those damn octopi...gross! Oh course, I simply appreciate the fact that you are a hockey fan...that, and you use the term wild jackals to refer to your children too! Ha!

  8. Cute card. I love polka dots, too, and they seem to go on everything these days. I noticed you used snap stamps for the sentiment. I got into stamping after these were no longer being made--at least that's what I've been told. I think I may have found a set, but which ones did you use? Looks like the casual alphabet, but did it come in more than one size of letters? If anyone has a source for these, I would appreciate it.
