Passing along Charmaine's Public Service Announcement...

Charmaine mentioned in this post yesterday about Gamsol being harmful when pregnant or nursing! I pulled out my bottle and read the label - yup, it says it right there!! I knew it was a 'petroleum distillate' and I suppose being a chemical engineer and all I should have realized this may not be a good option, but since it's odorless it didn't even occur to me! I knew there are other things that shouldn't be done while pregnant... like purposely sniffing my black StazOn (mmm love that yummy almond smell!)...! I have heard that baby oil works as a Gamsol alternative but have never tried it - now I'm going to, and I'll let you know how it turns out. (check Charmaine's post, that's what she used & it looks great!)

As you can gather from this post - yes, I'm pregnant! It will be 20wks this weekend, we're expecting a baby girl on February 2. This isn't how I planned to "announce" this to my blogging friends - I was going to make a cute baby girl card or something - but I am freaking out a bit about this Gamsol thing so I thought I'd pass along the info, in case anyone else out there isn't reading their bottles!

And fyi... I've mentioned my messy room in the past, and other things about why my stamping productivity took a nose dive this summer - but this is the true reason. The first trimester was rough - feeling crappy and completely drained of energy (especially during my typical late night stamping time). I'm not nauseous anymore (thankfully!) but I still feel quite tired by the end of the day. So there you have it! The whole story!! :-)

Yep, there are several threads on SCS regarding using baby oil to blend prismacolors...or you could always use the colorless blender pencil...or watercolor, KWIM?

  9. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!I'm so excited for you. My husband and I are trying for 3rd but so far no luck. I'm so happy for you and hope that everything goes well. I have used such products by accident when pregnant without any known effects. I just tend to follow the warning label and use in a well ventilated area, and make sure it does not come in contact with my skin ( latex glove). Now I'm not a chemical engineer though and don't know if this is precaution enough? Anyway she looks very cute from what can be seen and I don't think there is anything wrong with anouncing it this way!

  10. Congrats! I tried the baby oil before I purchased Gamsol and it worked great. It does have that baby oil smell and is a little greasier, so don't get it on your fingers or you'll have fingerprints all over your card! :)

  11. Congrat's!! Try not to worry about the Gamsol.. I used it while i was pregnant.. (didn't think of not using it, since I don't keep it under my nose or anything, lol!) and now have a beautiful, healthy, 4 mos. old girl! :)

  12. It would be hard to keep using it after reading something like this, wouldn't it? I can't blame you for being cautious. Congrats SO MUCH on your baby girl!! Carter has a sister coming! That's so exciting--a boy and a girl. She looks so itty bitty and I'll bet you just love her to pieces!

  14. Libby,

    First off CONGRATULATIONS!!!

secondly; Gina K has this nice frosted glass dispenser that protects users from fumes. I use it for my gamsol and it works very nice for me. Anyway,FYI for after the baby is born, I am sure
you would prefer not to take any chances now.

Thanks for sharing the health info (I'll need that eventually. lol) I know Embossing fumes and Crystal effects give me headaches(a respirator helps.)Bet we burn all kinds of braincells that we never knew we were extinguishing! (I know I must be missing a few, hehehe.) :0) Mel
