No, I don't live there anymore. But I did until two months ago, and before that for sixteen years. Seeing Texas in distress makes me realize I still consider it home. My heart is aching for Texas this week. And for my old neighborhood. One of the fires in Austin was in the subdivision we used to live in. The fire came within about three blocks of our house. Unbelievable!! I heard from the new owner (she's a fellow stamper and super sweet) - what they went through the past few days sounded absolutely terrifying, but thankfully they made it through ok. They were some of the lucky ones.
This week's challenge is sponsored by DRS Designs, and naturally I chose their Cowboy Silhouette image to work with. Little did I know how much I'd be thinking about Texas when the time for the challenge rolled around! I thought this week's colors could sorta give the effect of cowboys riding (and roping!) off into the sunset...
Also a bit ironic that I talk about anyone riding off into the sunset, as I'm very sad to report that this is my final post as a member of the Play Date Cafe design team. As you have probably gathered from the amount of posting on my blog (not much!!), I just haven't had much time for stamping lately. We have a lot of life stuff going on around here - getting settled in our new home & community, my son starting kindergarten, etc. It's been a struggle to juggle it all, so I decided it would be best not to have stamping commitments until I get back into a groove. I am forever thankful to Julie Ranae for giving me this opportunity, and honored to have served on this team with this wonderful group of ladies. They are truly THE BEST.
Thanks for stopping by today and reading my sad post!!

Gosh Libby...what a blessing for you and your family that you are safe where you now live, but so many prayers still go out for the people of Austin.
ReplyDeleteWe are SO going to miss you on our team...it has been such a wonderful experience getting to know you and your family and you KNOW that I know we will be friends into the sunset!
OH! This is sooooo awesome--LOVE the silhouette and the sentiment! Great papers and those staples are the perfect touch! LOVE!!
ReplyDeleteIt's been a blessing getting to know you!! I've really enjoyed being on the same team with you!!! You rock!!! Many blessings to you:)
What a stunning tribute to your friends and your life in Texas. I know how much you loved it there and are watching the events of late unfold with your heart breaking.
ReplyDeleteYour card is soooo beautiful and I love the stamp you chose to use. The Play Date Cafe's Challenge colors look amazing on your card and I adore all the teeny staples. :)
Looking forward to seeing what your future in your new home holds for you, dear friend. xoxo
Libby, I LOVE the western feel of this card----the distressing, the stitching, the silhouette image, the staples! AWESOME!!! Sad to see you leave the PDCC team, but hopefully you'll still sneak in some crafty time and posts to your blog-o here and there!
ReplyDeleteOh Libby, I so understand :) Love your project this week - great farewell I'd say ;)
ReplyDeleteYee Haw! Once a Texican...always a Texan! Great layers in this tribute!
ReplyDeleteGreat card. I can only imagine how much you are missing Texas. It's always hard to make a move and adjust. I'm sure you'll be "getting in the groove" soon. I bet Carter is LOVING kindergarten. Those fires in Texas are so, so scary...can't believe it was so close to your "old" house. I bet the new owner was just terrified, as she well deserved to be. Hang in there...we love ya', girl! :)
ReplyDeleteLibby, this is indeed a sad post. The whole dry, fiery situation in Texas is sad. I pray for them to have rain.
ReplyDeleteI will miss you being part of our team, but hope you come play with us sometimes! Be good! Keep that bike out! ;-)
It wasn't for long, but it was great being on the PDCC team with you! Enjoy taking time out with your family. And I love your card!
ReplyDeleteSuch an absolutely perfect card, for today, Libby! I'm not going to say goodbye! I'm still standing by us getting to scrap together sometime, and of course, I've got to keep coming back to see what you're up to ;), but I sure hope that you getting settled into your new neighborhood and community goes brilliantly. Much love, and HUGE hugs from Kansas City!
ReplyDeleteThis is just fabulous - love the theme and textures. Good luck in all you do!
ReplyDeleteSad to lose you as a DT member, Libby, but your "swan song" card is a winner. Just gorgeous. And I have ties to Texas having lived there for 5 years. Our daughter makes her home in Houston and told us that they are 45" deficit in rainfall for the year. It is scary seeing all those fires on TV. I can't imagine living there.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful card, Libby! I love your design and the main panel looks brilliant with the distressing and soft stamping!
ReplyDeleteI was so sorry to hear about what happened in Austin. It doesn't bear thinking about what the people there went through. You were a fab Play Date Cafe DT member and now I hope you enjoy all that extra time with your family and friends!
So sorry to see you are leaving the PDC. I've enjoyed your wondeful projects. This one is another beauty. How wonderfully you've captured Texas. My prayers go out to all of those in the paths of these fires. Thanks for sharing with us.
ReplyDeleteLove your Texas cowboy card - super design! I'll miss seeing your awesome creations here every week - but I know we'll still be Twitter friends!!
ReplyDeleteLibby, this card is perfect for your farewell! I wish you all the best. ;)
ReplyDeleteAw I'm gonna miss you on our team Libby, but I just know we will stay in touch. You created a lovely card for your final piece, great job! I hope things start to settle down for you soon xxx
ReplyDeleteI didn't get much of a chance to know you very well Libby, but I still feel a sense of loss as if I've known you forever! Wish you the best of luck in the future :)
ReplyDeleteLove your card! Nice masculine card with those silhouette cowboys and I love the staples and stitching :)
