August My Monthly Hero - Release + Giveaway!

(Edited to add: I created another card for this release using the Milky Way Window Fancy Die - click HERE if you'd like to see it in action!)

Hello and welcome! The new Hero Arts My Monthly Hero kit is here, and it is fabulous! I think it may be my favorite month ever. There's space and kitties and moons and stars and clouds and little girls flying to their dreams. That's it - it's just plain dreamy!

I haven't made cards in a little while, and when I don't I become kinda.... erm.... rusty! So this month I wasn't feelin' it on the card front - so instead I turned to my art journal. It's always my best friend when I need to send out search party for my crafty mojo! My favorite image in the main kit is the little girl flying. It just reminds me of Peter Pan, or chasing your dreams, or believing anything is possible... I don't know, I just love it. I've also had an idea in my head for ages to make a journal page inspired by Ruth B's song "Lost Boy," which has a Peter Pan theme - so this was just the kit to finally do it!

I began by covering the pages of my art journal (I use this one from Strathmore - I picked it up at Michael's with a coupon) with Daniel Smith watercolor ground. I used a ground with a really pretty shimmer to it. Then I watercolored over it once dry, using Daniel Smith paints. The shimmery ground leaves the background with a slight shimmery feel once painted. So pretty! And of course impossible to capture in photos - sorry - I stink at photographing my art journal! It's much prettier in person - trust me. ;-)

Using Orchid ink, I lightly stamped the "life is but a dream" message from the kit all over the background.

The little girl and the moon were done by covering a panel of cardstock with Versamark, direct to paper, and coating with Black Sparkle embossing powder. Then I used the dies from the kit to cut out the moon and girl. I didn't stamp them at all - just used the dies.

One of my favorite add-ons to this kit are the fabulous Nesting Cloudy Infinity Dies. I love flat-bottomed clouds, and I'm thrilled to have them in a variety of sizes now. Again, I prepped the paper first, then die-cut. This time I painted watercolor paper with more of the same Daniel Smith paint, and also spritzed with the blueberry shimmer ink that came with the kit. I will give you a little bit of a warning - this ink is messy, it sprays far and wide - so be careful when you use it! But I absolutely LOVE how it looks!!

More details were added to the background. The trees are from the Color Layering Snowy Tree stamp set. The fun little star trio from the kit was stamped here and there with gold Delicata ink. I love all of the ways to add stamped sparkle and shimmer with this kit - or "fairy dust", if you'd like!

The lyrics to the song by Ruth B were typed up and printed out on the computer, then cut up and added to the page with Ranger matte multi medium. I doodled little boxes around each word with my black Sharpie, and I also added a black border to the pages using a black acrylic paint marker.

Here's the song by Ruth B if you've never heard it - it was out a while ago, but I love it so! (Find it here on YouTube if it's not showing up on your device!)

And here's a look at this fabulous kit!
