Flower Friday!

Happy Flower Friday everyone! This was one of the cards I did for my hostess club last night - I showed the ladies how to do the cracked glass technique. What fun!! I just love how this card turned out - I honestly have to say it's one of my all-time favorite creations (yes, I am patting myself on the back as I type this...)! :-) The layout for this card was inspired by the previously posted Roses in Winter card that I made for my mom. This was my first time playing with cracked glass - and I figured out a few things from this experience that I thought I'd pass along: the technique seems to work best when the card is still really cold, so crack it as soon as you pull it out of the freezer (if you're saying "huh? freezer???", read Beate's excellent tutorial on SCS, a step in the process is actually putting your embossed piece in the freezer to cool off). Also, some people can just pour on more embossing powder for the next coat while it's still warm from heating, but I couldn't get that to work, I must not be quick enough! I just used the Versamark between each layer. And finally, this technique uses A LOT of the Glassy Glaze (or UTEE) - I actually ran out last night before everyone finished! But, when the Glassy Glaze was gone, I pulled out some regular clear embossing powder and we followed Beate's advice to do ~6 coats, and it worked great too - perhaps it even cracked a little better than the Glassy Glaze! It just takes longer because you need to apply more embossed coats. All in all, this is a really fun technique, and if you haven't ever tried it, you should! :-) Have a great weekend!

  1. Beautiful card Libby! I like your cracked glass. I've done that technique - it's time consuming but the results are stunning. And yes, I'm from Austin as well. Hook 'em horns!

  2. You did a fabulous job on this cracked glass and the stamping underneath it looks beautiful as well! Thanks for mentioning about doing cracked glass with multiple coats of regular EP. I didn't know that could be done. I'll have to give it a try!
