Saturday Scrapbook Club!

It's Saturday so you know what that means! I have some rotten photographs of a mediocre scrapbook layout to share with you! Woohoo! I am so frustrated with scrapbook photography, grrr. In the future I may just show you a stack of layouts without trying to focus in on the details, since I'm not that great of a scrapper anyway. My only point of posting them is to try to get me to actually work on them! But as it turns out, having to photograph them and post them is kinda turning me off from the whole process. Part of me hopes you don't even visit my blog on Saturdays. HA!

Ok enough with the self-deprecating, here's my layout:


I absolutely adore the photo of Carter & Courtney walking with hands held. It makes my heart happy. These photos were taken last spring at the Austin Nature Center, one of our favorite (free!) places to spend a morning. I haven't added any journaling yet because I couldn't decide where to put it or what format to use. Any suggestions? :-)

I'll be back tomorrow (or maybe tonight!) with some cards I made last night that I sorta actually love. So hopefully I won't be as hard on myself then... hee hee

Saturday Scrapbook Club - in search of zebras

Today's layout captures a day when my kids and I went on a quest to find zebras. Carter was on a big zebra kick and had been recently disappointed that we couldn't find any during a trip to the zoo. So we headed south of Austin to one of those drive-thru nature parks and got super duper up close and personal with some zebras and other animals. It was really neat.

I don't like all that empty green space, but what can I say - I'm rusty. Or I'm stuck in my circa 2001 scrapbooking style. :-)

By the way, Carter's favorite animal is now the cheetah. Poor zebras...!

Saturday Scrapbook Club

Back before I started stamping, I was a scrapbooker. I put together scrapbooks of the trips my husband and I went on before we had kids. I would joke that I wanted to have kids because they'd be so much fun to scrapbook! Then a couple things happened. I started stamping, and enjoying the instant gratification that comes from finishing a card (hours) vs. finishing a scrapbook (days, weeks, months!), and I also got it in my head that my kids' layouts had to be perfect. I'm trying to put that silly notion behind me now and just get them done, before my kids are grown and I've forgotten all the details of the thousands of photos I've taken! By the way, that's another thing that's been holding me back - the sheer volume of photos, all sitting there on my computer taunting me. It can be truly overwhelming! So in an attempt to get more scrapbooking out of me, I decided to start posting my layouts here on Saturdays. I don't claim to be any sort of master scrapbooker, but I just want to force myself to make time to DO IT. I figure if I target posting at least one layout here each week, in a year I'll have 52 layouts done - not too shabby!! And today I even have two to show you, woohoo! These were actually mostly done at a crop many weeks ago, but had been sitting unfinished since I got home from the crop that night. Now they are FINISHED. Yay!!

First up is one of Carter camping last March (inspired by a sketch in Scrapbooks, Etc magazine.):


And here's one of my sweet little ballerina, from her first day wearing her leotard and ballet slippers at dance class:


In the future I'll try to be better about keeping track of products used and all that. But for these I was just trying to get them done & didn't pay a whole lot of attention.

My friends Sarah and Michelle are getting in on the Saturday posting action too, although Michelle isn't starting until next week. But make sure and check in with them on Saturdays and see what they're up to. Anyone else want to join us?? Do you have a gazillion photos that you need to get off the computer or out of shoeboxes and into books?

I hope my cardmaking friends will forgive me for this Saturday scrapbook intrusion. :-)

National Scrapbooking Day!

Yesterday was National Scrapbooking Day! Which was perfect timing, because I had recently been contemplating trying to get back into scrapbooking, so this just reinforced that desire. I was a scrapbooker before I was a cardmaker, it's how I entered into the world of papercrafting. I have a whole shelf of scrapbooks about the vacations we've been on PK (pre-kids!). But since having kids, I've done nada. The kids LOVE looking at my travel books, so I know I really need to get to work on their books, they will enjoy them so much! So... here's my initial attempt at returning to the world of scrapbooking!


I used the Hero Arts Clouds stamp, cut out with the Tim Holtz Styled Labels die. I made a little banner for the title, since banners seem to be all the rage these days. Nothing fancy - I'm not much of a scrapper, really - but I had a lot of fun making this page, and I know Carter will love it, and that's what really matters! Yay!!

I probably won't share many scrapbook pages here, but I thought I'd share this one since it's NSD and all. By the way, did you know that Hero Arts has a little NSD contest going on? Check it out HERE.
